A new set of leaders have finally took oath last 15 June 2012 at the City of Smiles, Bacolod with the Philippine Coast Guard Commandant as the guest of honor.
The Joint Turn-Over of Command of the National Leaders and District Directors was held at the prestigious Visayan Maritime Academy (VMA) College as spearheaded by its warm and hospitable President who is also the Western Visayas District Auxiliary Director CAPT ELIZABETH SALABAS PCGA.
PCG Commandant VADM EDMUND C TAN, in his speech, encouraged the Auxiliarists to continue their hard work and commendable performance as they carry-on with the commitment to do their best for the interest of the organization despite the change of leadership. He also congratulates the PCGA leadership for its continuing pursuit to harness the full potential of its force to outstandingly perform its functions.
He also gave assurance of support as he expressed his pride of working hand-in-hand with PCGA in responding to every call as the partner organization.
Meanwhile, "Onward to a Better and Excellent Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary" is the core value of leadership of the new National Director RADM DANILO G CABALDE PCGA who started to assume position on 01 June 2012.
Having the mission to assist the Philippine Coast Guard in its four major functions: Maritime Search and Rescue, Maritime Safety, Maritime Environmental Protection and Community Relationsm as mandated by Republic Act 9993 also known as the Philippine Coast Guard Law of 2009, the new set of National Auxiliary Board under his leadership is now in the process of standardizing all components of its operating units.
Plans and programs for trainings are being developed and shall be implemented in no time in order to continually improve the quality, effective and efficient members of the Auxiliary. Every squadron are encouraged to organize, train and equip personnel and secure physical assets that can be used to respond to PCG’s call.
District Conventions and National Auxiliary Board Conferences schedules are all set and well planned for the next two years of his term. All districts from Luzon, Visayas and even Mindanao shall also be visited every quarter to ensure better communication and inter-operability among member squadrons.
The First Visayan Summit was also held at the same venue the next day which aims to get other Squadrons to meet each other to develop camaraderie, strengthen mutual cooperation and be able to quickly respond to assist affected members of the district during calamities. It also aims to identify needs and concerns of the auxiliarists and disseminate vital information for implementation based on the Philippine Coast Guard Manual for PCGA of 2012. A simulation of disaster preparedness was also presented to showcase the best practices and readiness of the host district for any calamity.
The next CGAD WV District Convention will be set in Tacloban City in August 2012.
