From the City of Gentle People - Dumaguete - the CGAD Central Visayas hosted the 28th National Convention of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary with the theme : “ PCGA Ngayon, Kasama at Kabalikat ng Tanod-Baybayin ng Pilipinas”.
The three-day occasion last May 10-12, 2012 was held in Negros Oriental Convention Center in Dumaguete City. It was graced by the Philippine Coast Guard Commandant VADM EDMUND C TAN who is also a native of this province. The City’s Governor, Hon. Roel R. Degamo welcomed the delegates and shared his inspirational message.
COMMO LUIS M TUASON PCG, Vice Commandant for Operations, presented the new PCGA Regulations Manual 2012, which was collaboratively prepared and reviewed by a team composed of representatives from PCG and PCGA. The manual contains the updated regulations, protocols and policies based on the provisions of Republic Act 9993 or the Philippine Coast Guard Law of 2009.
An open forum ensued to give delegates the opportunity to clarify concerns, air suggestions and questions.
The election for the National Directorate was also conducted and RADM DANILO G CABALDE PCGA was named the new National Auxiliary Director (NAD) to serve for two years. A symbolic turn-over of command from VADM HIGINIO C MENDOZA JR PCGA to the new director became one of the highlights of the convention.
A ceremonial lighting of candles and a moment of prayer was offered to honor the late RADM NORMA Y PORTER PCGA who selflessly served as District Auxiliary Director of CGAD Central Eastern Visayas.
Every night ends with a fellowship where the delegates came in cowboy costumes during the Commandants night held at the Alta Tierra Valencia Club house which was situated along mountain ridge and in colorful Hawaiian theme during the NAD's night in one of a nearby resort in the city.
These moments strengthened the camaraderie among the more than 700 delegates coming from the different parts of the archipelago, most of whom are from the Coast Guard Auxiliary District National Capital Region-Central Luzon (CGAD NCR-CL).
The last day was spent visiting the Apo Island onboard Coast Guard SAR Vessels BRP Edsa and BRP Romblon. The rubber boat travel also made the experience even more memorable especially for those who had it for the first time.
All these said and done, it was a common thought amongst the PCGA officers and members that CGAD-CV has conducted a job well done.
Today, the men and women of the PCGA are looking forward to the 29th National Convention in Davao on May 2013!
