The dedicated men and women of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) will once again gather to witness and take part in another milestone in its history as it holds the annual National Convention in time with its 40th Founding Anniversary.
Hosted this year by the National Auxiliary Main Office (NAMO), the 30th PCGA NACON will be held at Le Pavilion Metropolitan Park, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City on May 23-24.
Being the uniformed civilian support group of the Philippine Coast Guard, the PCGA is one of the largest non-government organizations in the country that aims for disaster risk reduction. Also, among its many duties is assisting the PCG in promoting safety of life and properties at sea, conducting water and urban search and rescue, marine environmental protection and civic action undertakings.
Themed “PCGA – Trained, Equipped and Ready”, the 30th PCGA NACON will be graced by DOTC Secretary Hon. Joseph Emilio Aguinaldo Abaya as the guest of honor, Coast Guard Commandant VADM RODOLFO D ISORENA PCG, Coast Guard Vice Commandant for Operations RADM LUIS M TUASON JR PCG and Coast Guard Vice Commandant for Administration RADM CECIL R CHEN PCG.
As with previous National Conventions, the National Auxiliary Board will hold a bidding for the host for next year’s NACON while the National Election Committee will conduct an election for the new National Director.
Likewise, Hon. Joseph Abaya and VADM ISORENA PCG will present the Dolphin Service Recognition Award and other medals to the Past National Directors of the PCGA.
In time with its 40th Founding Anniversary, VADM ISORENA PCG and PCGA National Director VADM DANILO G CABALDE PCGA will present special awards to certain PCGA officers while the various Auxiliary Districts will showcase their AVP based on the PCGA Best Practices on the five functional areas such as MARSAR, MAREP, MARSAF, COMREL and VST&P.
The National Convention is a yearly gathering of Coast Guard Auxiliaries from all over the country. It serves as a yearly forum for the Auxiliary members to review the previous year’s performance and further develop strategies aimed at helping the PCG accomplish its mission in promoting safety of life and property at sea and protecting the marine environment.
The event also provides participants the opportunity to meet fellow PCGA members from other districts and forge stronger ties in the spirit of volunteerism.
At present, there are more or less 6,408 active PCGA members around the country. Most of the members have assets such as vessels and aircraft and/or professions that are useful to the PCG in meeting its mission requirements as a multi-mission maritime agency.
