The PCGA 125th Auxiliary Squadron officers have recently participated in a Coastal Clean-Up and Mangrove Planting activity as organized by the office of the Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Marine Environmental Protection (CG-9) and the Coast Guard Station Cavite last 21 March 2014.
As per the invitation of CGS Cavite during the Auxiliary Squadron meeting held last 01 March 2014, its Director Auxiliary Squadron CAPT JUNMAR A ROA PCGA concurred to join the activity and send Squadron officers to participate at the said activity.
It was a joint project of the DENR Cavite Region IV Calabarzon, Philippine Coast Guard, Provincial Environmental and Natural Resources Office (PENRO)-Cavite and the Municipality of Noveleta for the “International Day of Forests” and “Initiative for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation”.
At 0700H, a short program was held as led by CDR ROBEN N DE GUZMAN PCG, PCG Deputy Chief of Staff for MAREP (CG-9). PCG personnel from various Coast Guard units, representatives from the municipality of Noveleta and the 125th Squadron were taught on the proper planting of a mangrove propagule and was informed that afterwards, a coastal clean-up will be held.
Eight officers from the 125th Squadron, along with the PCG personnel, planted a total of 4,000 mangrove propagules. Afterwards, everyone proceeded to the conduct a clean-up operations where garbage collected were placed on sacks. It was later picked-up by a garbage truck as provided by the city hall.
