Various Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadrons (CGAS) have conducted simultaneous disaster relief operations last Thursday, 02 August within the NCR-Central Luzon AOR that were greatly affected by tropical storm Gener.
As per the directives of RADM CECIL R CHEN PCG, District Commander of CGDNCR-CL, and with clearance from COMMO HILARION F DIMAGIBA JR PCGA, District Director of CGADNCR-CL, CDR MANUEL LUIS P IDQUIVAL JR PCGA, CGADNCR-CL Chief of Staff and CDR EDGARDO P IDQUIVAL PCGA, 109th Auxiliary Squadron Director assumed the tasking and coordination of established activities.
For coordination, CDR MANUEL IDQUIVAL PCGA activated the CGADNCR-CL Squadrons in partnership with CGS Manila and its Station Commander, CDR GREGORIO ADEL PCG.
For the operation termed as “Oplan Gener”, seven Auxiliary Squadrons have been deployed to conduct simultaneous disaster relief operations in Navotas, Malabon, Roxas Boulevard and Cavite.
The 101st Squadron who operates within the Manila AOR, patrolled along Roxas Boulevard with nine personnel to conduct crowd control and cleaning along with the CGS Manila and local police. To assist in the operation, the 106th Squadron responded with six personnel as headed by CDR ALEX PUZON PCGA.
Eight personnel of the 101st Squadron, through the leadership of CAPT SALVADOR G TIANGCO JR PCGA, with some operatives from the PCG, then proceeded to Navotas to assist in ferrying passengers along Mariano Naval Street. Initial assessment disclosed that floods reached a maximum level of three feet in some portions of subject area.
Subject Squadron along with 23 personnel from CGS Manila as led by ENS MIZAR CUMBE PCG, turned over to Municipal Mayor John Rey Tiangco the relief goods that were later distributed to affected residents.
The 109th Squadron, as lead by CDR EDGARDO IDQUIVAL PCGA then organized for a purchase of rubber boots for additional operatives that were deployed on said area. CDR RICARDO VICTORIA PCGA, a doctor by profession, provided medical assistance with ENS ARNEIL ALAPIT PCGA and ENS JEREMIAS ABANGIN on subject area.
The 126th Squadron was also deployed through the leadership of CDR LALIE TOLENTINO PCGA who responded with eight personnel to deliver relief good packs in CGS Manila. Some personnel of said Squadron also conducted crowd control and relief operations in Malabon on the same day.
Meanwhile, the 109th Squadron Office, due to flooding in the CGDNCR-CL Headquarters in Farola Compound, served as the Oplan Gener Command Center for monitoring and mobilization of personnel in the affected areas.
Three CGA Squadrons deployed in Ternate, Cavite
On the same day, Auxiliary Squadrons 103, 125 and 129 have also conducted a disaster relief operations in Brgy. San Juan 1 in Ternate, Cavite.
Initial assessment inspections conducted by Task Force Commander LCDR ANTONIO GARCIA PCGA, CGS Cavite Commander CDR RODEL ABURQUEZ PCG and Barangay Captain Deonilo Barsamino, disclosed that several houses along the coastline of Brgy San Juan 1 were washed away by approximately 5 meter waves while other houses and were found buried in the sand.
Immediately, Auxiliary Squadrons operating within the Cavite AOR have sent operatives to provide relief for the affected residents of subject barangay. LCDR GARCIA PCGA of the 103rd Squadron, LCDR ROLANDO RAMOS PCGA of the 125th Squadron and CDR TED CADA PCGA of the 129th Squadron have led in the distribution of relief bags containing provisions and clothing for approximately 150 families.
Seven personnel from CGS Cavite, as lead by CPO DEMETRIO HATID PCG, Deputy Station Commander, have also joined the operations.
On the following day, 03 August, personnel of the 101st Squadron returned to Navotas to render assistance for passengers crossing the flooded M. Naval Street using three 6x6 forward truck. Passengers were then transported for free from C4 to Longos, Cavite.
Subject trucks were provided by CGS Manila and the Coast Guard District (CGD) NCR-CL. Said operation was lead by CAPT TIANGCO PCGA and ENS MARK ADRIAS PCG and ENS GERIEL CABACUNGAN of CGDNCR-CL. In coordination with CDR ADEL PCG, a relief operation was also held with support trucks to ferry said relief goods for distribution.
With all of the subject operations, COMMO DIMAGIBA PCGA was in full coordination with all concerned Squadrons and personnel.
