President Benigno Aquino III has expressed his intentions of giving Adm. Ramon C. Liwag a position in his cabinet now that the latter has retired as the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant.
During the Retirement and Turn-Over Ceremony held at the PCG Headquarters in Port Area, Manila last 26 January, the President quipped that he is giving the Admiral a one-day vacation from public service. Department of Transportation and Communication (DoTC) Secretary Mar Roxas confirmed that Adm. Liwag would be given a position in the department but declined to disclose what position until it is finalized by the authorities. “The President values highly the services of Admiral Liwag and there are several positions that he is being considered for,” Sec. Roxas said in an interview with Philippine Star. The President reportedly took into consideration Liwag’s “experience in commanding large numbers of people and experience in complex multi-faceted operations.” In his speech, Liwag said that after 33 years of serving the PCG, he is now looking forward to having long walks and movie marathon with his wife Mafe and daughter Paula. To them he said, “I am yours.” However, the Admiral added that if he would be called back to the government, he would not be able to say “no” to the President. |
